MI Man Runs Down Family Out For A Walk, Shoots And Kills 3-Year-old Girl: Sheriff

DELTA TOWNSHIP, MI — A 21-year-old man is facing charges after running down a family with his car and shooting them, killing a 3-year-old girl last week in Eaton County, according to sheriff's officials.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. last Thursday near Green Meadows and Farmstead Lane in Delta Township, according to police.

Officials said Alexander Lamar Banks Jr. struck a family who was out for a walk with his car. He then got out of the car and fired several shots at them, officials said.

A bystander tried to help, but was also attacked and suffered serious injuries, officials said.

A 3-year-old girl was killed at the scene, officials said.

A 72-year-old woman was taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. A 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were also taken to a hospital and were listed in stable condition, officials said.

Officials did not immediately identify the victims.

Investigators believe this was an isolated incident and said there is no threat to the community.

Banks was arrested shortly after the incident. He was charged with 10 felonies, including first-degree murder and attempted murder. He was placed in jail without bond. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.
