MI Park Remains Among Least-Visited National Parks In U.S.: Report

This Michigan park saw only 25,454 recreation visits​ in 2022, making it one of the nation's least-visited national parks, the report said.

KEWEENAW COUNTY, MI — Despite its beautiful wilderness, Michigan's Isle Royale National Park remains one of the least-visited national parks in the nation, according to CNN Travel’s recent list of least-visited U.S. national parks in 2022.

The park ranked No. 5 on the list with only 25,454 recreation visits in 2022, making it one of the nation's least-visited national parks.

Isle Royale National Park was only behind three parks in Alaska, and the National Park of American Samoa, which topped the CNN Travel list with just 1,887 recreation visits all last year.

One of the reasons why the park may be so secluded is because of its remote location out in Lake Superior. The island is roughly 55 miles from the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The park is only accessible by boat or seaplane, and is closed annually from mid-April through the end of October.

The park is home to wildlife, such as moose and gray wolves, and offers adventures for backpackers, hikers, boaters, paddlers and divers.
