U.S. News and World readers and editors voted Mackinac Island as the nation's summer destination.
Mackinac Island beat out a long list of popular national parks and well-known vacation spots, including Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon.

The car-less island settled between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas offers plenty of opportunities for summer fun, including kayaking, biking along Lake Shore Boulevard and hiking to the Instagram-worthy Arch Rock.
"For a classic Mackinac Island experience, take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the island's downtown, stopping to sample some of Mackinac's famous fudge along the way," U.S. News and World editors wrote.
