MICHIGAN — Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin and Republican Mike Rogers cruised to easy primary victories in Michigan's U.S. Senate race Tuesday night, according to the Associated Press.
The Associated Press called the race at 9 p.m. with roughly 10 percent of the vote counted. Slotkin had 75 percent of the Democratic vote and Rogers secured 70 percent of the Republican vote.
The two are projected to face off in November for Michigan's Senate seat in Washington, D.C. The race is expected to be one of the most contested and closely watched senate races in this year's general elections in November.

The senate seat became available after longtime Democrat Debbie Stabenow decided not to seek re-election. Stabenow was first elected to the Senate in 2000 and won reelection three times.
Michigan Sen. Gary Peters is the state's other representative in the Senate. He won re-election in 2020 and was first elected in 2014.
