Metro Detroit Student Kidnapped From Bus Stop At Gunpoint, Fellow Students Help Track Her Location: Police
Police said the suspect has a history of rape charges.
HAMTRAMCK, MI — A student is ok after she was kidnapped at gunpoint from her bus stop Monday morning in Hamtramck, according to police.
The kidnapping happened at 7:09 a.m. in the area of Edwin and Brombach streets, according to police.
Hamtramck Police Department Chief Hussein Farhat said the two did not know each other and called it a random incident.

Several students who witnessed the kidnapping helped officers track the suspect's location through social media and cell phone information, according to Hamtramck Public School Board of Education President Abdulmalik Algahaim.
Officers tracked the suspect's vehicle to a nearby gas station where they found the 16-year-old safe and arrested the man roughly 30 minutes after the kidnapping, according to police.

A weapon was also recovered, according to police.
The gas station clerk told WXYZ the suspect asked for cigarettes and told the girl to pay for them when she mouthed "help."
He said he kicked the man out of the gas station and told the girl to stand behind him. Police arrived as he was escorting the man from the gas station, according to the report.
Police did not identify the suspect but said he has a history of rape charges.
Police said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.
