MI Woman Escapes Police Custody By Squeezing Through Squad Car Window: Police

Police are looking for a woman who they said escaped a patrol car over the weekend in west Michigan.

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI — Police are looking for a woman who they said escaped a patrol car over the weekend in west Michigan.

The incident happened at 3:30 p.m. Saturday when an officer spotted a parked car at an abandoned business near Norton Avenue and Peck Street in Muskegon Heights, according to police.

An officer approached the car and spoke with its occupants, according to police.

Officers identified them and said the woman had an outstanding parole violation warrant. They arrested her and placed her in the back of a patrol SUV, according to police.

While officers were searching the suspect's car, police said the woman squeezed through a partially open rear window and exited the police SUV. She then ran away, according to police.

Officers immediately tried to locate her in the area, but couldn't find her, according to police.

Now-viral video captured the woman's escape from the SUV.

Roughly an hour later, police said a resident in the 3300 block of Peck Street reported a breaking and entering incident.

Investigators believe the suspect in that crime is the same woman who escaped police custody earlier that day. They did not identify the woman or release any description of her.

Police said they are now working to obtain additional arrest warrants for escaping police custody, breaking and entering and larceny.

They are still looking for the woman and asked anyone with information on her whereabouts to call the Muskegon Heights Police at 231-733-8900 or call Silent Observer at 231-722-7463.
