MI Woman Steals $86K From Vulnerable, Elderly Person: Officials

Officials said the woman tricked the elderly person into leaving everything they had to her just about a week before the victim died.

BURTCHVILLE TOWNSHIP, MI — A Burtchville Township woman pleaded guilty to stealing more than $86,000 of inheritance funds from a vulnerable, elderly person in 2018, according to the Michigan Attorney General's Office.

Lisa Marie Tramski, 56, pleaded guilty to one charge of embezzlement of more than $50,000 but less than $100,000. She was also ordered to pay $51,600.75 in restitution. She was originally charged with embezzlement and tax fraud earlier this year.

She will be sentenced on Sept. 16.

Officials said Tramski tricked an elderly and vulnerable person into signing a document that left everything they had to Tramski roughly one week before the victim died.

Although Tramski knew there were legal challenges to the will, she proceeded to take $86,033.75 from the victim’s accounts, officials said.

Overall, officials said Tramski took more than $86,000 from the victim.

However, a probate court ultimately invalidated the will benefitting Tramski, officials said.

"The plea secured today marks a significant step toward justice," Attorney General Dana Nessel said. "My department will continue to pursue accountability for those who are unable to protect themselves and ensure perpetrators face consequences for their actions."
