Michigan Pot Sales On 4/20 Smash Records, Up 45% From 2021

Michiganders bought 4,619 pot on Wednesday, which was significantly more than the 1,192 in 2021.

MICHIGAN — Michiganders smashed the previous record for pot sales on Wednesday (4/20), which is the annual pot holiday, according to preliminary data from the Cannabis Regulatory Agency of Michigan.

Cannabis Regulatory Agency Director Andrew Brisbo said Thursday that Michiganders purchased more than two tons of marijuana flower on Wednesday from pot stores across the state, nearly 3,000 more pounds than in 2021.

  • 2022 – 4,619 pounds
  • 2021 – 1,192 pounds
  • 2020 – 430 pounds

In setting the new record, Michiganders spent more than $15.5 million on cannabis products at marijuana stores Wednesday, which was up 45 percent from last year, the agency said.

  • 2020 - $3.67 million

"Overall sales continue to increase despite significant price decreases year over year," Brisbo said. "Over 140,000 adult-use vape cartridges were sold yesterday — 100,000 more than last year."

There were 478 recreational marijuana dispensaries across the state, as well as 540 medical dispensaries with 230,500 patients in Michigan.
