Northern MI Town Gets First Snowfall Of The Season: NWS

The first snowfall of the season fell early Tuesday morning in a small town in the Upper Peninsula, National Weather Forecasters said.

The Upper Peninsula and parts of northern Michigan are expected to see more than average snowfall this season, while the rest of Michigan is expected to see about normal averages, according to the latest AccuWeather prediction.

MICHIGAMME, MI — The first snowfall of the season fell early Tuesday morning in a small town in the Upper Peninsula, according to the National Weather Service.

Michigamme, located in the western half of the Upper Peninsula near Marquette, recorded about a tenth of an inch early Tuesday morning, according to the weather service.

Roughly 270 people live in the small town, according to census data.

The snowflakes won't stick around long, however, as temperatures in the area are expected to jump into the 60s, about 10 to 15 degrees above average for this time of year, according to the weather service.

In the long run, the Upper Peninsula and parts of northern Michigan are expected to see more than average snowfall this season, while the rest of Michigan is expected to see about normal averages, according to the latest AccuWeather prediction.
