Northern Michigan Island Is Best In United States, Magazine Says
A Northern Michigan landmark was named the best island in the United States, according to Travel + Leisure.

MICHIGAN — A Northern Michigan landmark was named the best island in the United States, according to Travel + Leisure.
The magazine placed Mackinac Island at the top of its list ranking the 15 best islands in the continental U.S.
Mackinac Island earned the top spot with a ranking 89.10 out of 100. The Lake Huron island is known for its fudge, ban on motor vehicles and the Grand Hotel, which dates back to 1887 and earned the number six spot on this year's list of the Best Hotels in the Midwest, the magazine said.

"The family-friendly downtown has many restaurants, fudge shops, and galleries," the magazine said. "There are also several golf courses, one of which, known as "Wawa," lies on a battlefield where the British captured the island from the Americans in the War of 1812."
