Severe Thunderstorms Could Hit MI Friday: See Forecast

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the southeast Michigan region under a Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) for severe weather on Friday.​

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — A line of powerful thunderstorms could hit the Detroit area Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms are expected to move across southeast Michigan sometime Friday afternoon between 4 and 10 p.m. when high temperatures reach the mid 80s, according to the National Weather Service.

Any thunderstorm that crosses the area will be capable of producing heavy downpours, large hail and damaging winds up to 60 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the southeast Michigan region under a Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) for severe weather on Friday.

The storms should move out of the region by the nighttime hours, giving away to a warm weekend with lower humidity levels, according to the National Weather Service.

Numerous scattered thunderstorms are also possible across parts of northern and western Michigan Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Those storms will also be capable of producing heavy rain, large hail and damaging winds Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorm chances return to southeast Michigan early next week with highs in the middle 80s and higher humidity levels, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday: Sunny; High 81, Low 64

Sunday: Sunny; High 86, Low 67

Monday: Rain/Storms; High 90, Low 70

Tuesday: Rain/Storms; High 84, Low 66
