Snow On Halloween? Some Parts Of MI Could See Up To 6 Inches

Forecasters expect most of the snow to fall up north, but flurries are possible across southeastern Michigan.

MICHIGAN — Some parts of Michigan can see up to 6 inches of snow by Tuesday morning, creating a winter-wonderland for trick-or-treaters, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of the snow is expected to fall in the Upper Peninsula, where areas in Houghton County can see up to 6 inches, while other parts of northern Michigan can see up to 2 inches of fresh snow, according to the National Weather Service.

In southeastern Michigan, snow flurries are possible Tuesday night, but they won't be widespread and will likely only stick to grasses surfaces, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters expect only light accumulations, particularly in areas west of Interstate 75 in the metro Detroit area.

Along with the flurries, temperatures will be cold for trick-or-treaters in the metro Detroit area, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters expect temperatures to drop into the low 30s by Tuesday evening in the Detroit area. Winds chills can even push the temperatures into the upper 20s, according to the National Weather Service.

The normal high temperature in the Detroit area on Oct. 30 is 56 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The coldest Halloween on record in the Detroit area was set in 1917 when highs only reached 34 degrees.

For the rest of the week, highs will struggle to reach 50 degrees in the metro Detroit area, though the week should remain dry, according to the National Weather Service. The next chance for rain showers will come on Saturday.

Monday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45 degrees. Northwest wind 10 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 22 miles per hour.
