Snowstorm Timeline, Breakdown By Region: MI Weather
Forecasters believe the rain/snow line will set up somewhere in the immediate metro Detroit area. Here's what each region can expect.
SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — A fast-moving snowstorm will dump several inches of snow Thursday morning across southeastern Michigan, according to the National Weather Service.
The snowstorm will move into southeastern Michigan around 6 a.m. Thursday morning and quickly dump 1 to 2 inches per hour in some parts before moving out sometime around 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The greatest snowfall amounts will be in areas along and north of Interstate 69 where forecasters predict 3 to 6 inches of fresh snow will fall by Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas between Interstate 696 and Interstate 69 will see between 1 and 2 inches of fresh snow by Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Areas between Interstate 94 and Interstate 696 will likely see less than an inch of snow, but could see freezing rain in the morning hours as temperatures will be in the low 30s, according to the National Weather Service.

Any snowfall amounts in the immediate metro Detroit area should start melting away by 2 p.m. Thursday when temperatures in the region rise to 40 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Areas along and south of Interstate 94 will pick up little to no snow accumulations, and will likely only see rain as temperatures should be slightly warmer during the morning hours, according to the National Weather Service.
As of Wednesday morning, forecasters believe the rain/snow line will set up somewhere in the immediate metro Detroit area (areas between Interstate 94 and Interstate 696), but warned the slightest shift in the line could drastically affect snowfall totals.
"Main uncertainty with this system is the timing of the warming and amount of wintry mix that will over metro Detroit. As a result, low confidence exists in the potential for very light icing," National Weather Service forecasters said.
Parts of northern Michigan could see more snow, as forecasters predict the Gaylord area could see more than 7 inches of fresh snow by Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
