Tampon Tax Repeal, 2-Year Registration: MI Laws Set For 2022

MICHIGAN — With the start of 2022, Michigan will see the implementation of several important new laws, including a bill repealing a tax on feminine hygiene products and allowing for a two-year vehicle registration.
Here's a look at some of the new state laws that will go into effect in 2022.
HB 5267, is an act to repeal the tax on essential menstrual products, including tampons, driving down costs and saving families from paying taxes on up to $4,800 of spending over the course of a lifetime. It will take effect Feb. 3, 2022.

HB 4117, would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to allow a vehicle registration issued by the Secretary of State (SOS) to expire two years after the owner's birthday if requested by the owner of the vehicle. The bill will take effect Oct. 1 2022.
SB 674, The bill would repeal Section 10 of the Motor Fuel Tax Act, which requires any increase to the motor fuel tax prescribed by the Act to apply to previously taxed motor fuel in excess of 3,000 gallons held in storage by an end user and to previously taxed motor fuel held for sale that is in excess of dead storage.

HB 4172, The bill would amend Chapter 4 (Occupational Diseases and Disablements) of the Worker's Disability Compensation Act to require, beginning Jan. 1, 2022, a part-time, paid on-call, or volunteer, or former part-time, paid on-call, or volunteer, member of a fire department or public fire authority to suspend a workers' compensation claim.
SB 771, is an act relating to the economic development of this state, which seeks to create the Michigan strategic fund and to prescribe its powers and duties.
HB 5072, the bill would amend the Public Health Code to specify that the distribution of certain exempt prescription drugs would not be included in calculating the total number of dosage units of all prescription drugs distributed by a pharmacy to a person during any consecutive 12-month period.
SB 494, is an act to protect the environment and natural resources of the state, which seeks to codify, revise, consolidate and classify laws relating to the environment and natural resources of the state.
HB 4921, the bill would amend the Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act to require a licensee to transmit to the Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA) and a municipality financial statements of the licensee's total operations every three years, or a shorter period as determined by the MRA, instead of no later than 30 days after the end of each State fiscal year, as is currently required under the Act.
SB 245, is an act to provide for the establishment of charter counties, which will prescribe their powers and duties to an election of charter commissioners.
SB 0103, under the bill, "incumbent electric transmission company" would mean an electric utility, affiliated transmission company, or independent transmission company that owns a high-voltage transmission line in the State on or after the bill's effective date.
