SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms will hit southeastern Michigan Tuesday as some of the hottest air of the summer settles in the region, according to the National Weather Service.

A line of strong thunderstorms will cross the southeastern Michigan region Tuesday morning, bringing heavy downpours, frequent lightning and large hail, according to the weather service.

The storms will move out of the southeastern Michigan region by late Tuesday morning when temperatures climb toward the 90s with the heat indices nearing 100 degrees, according to the weather service.

A second and more powerful line of thunderstorms will cross the southeastern Michigan area sometime between 2 p.m. and midnight Tuesday, according to the weather service.

Those storms will be capable of producing heavy downpours, large hail up to 1 inch, damaging winds reaching 60 miles per hour and even an isolated tornado, according to the weather service.

The southeastern Michigan region is under a slight risk (2/5) for severe weather Tuesday.

Thunderstorm chances for southeastern Michigan stick around Wednesday when high temperatures begin cooling into the 80s, according to the weather service.
