GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, MI — A tornado ripped through Genesee County early Wednesday morning as a line of powerful thunderstorms crossed the region, according to police.

Police said the tornado touched down at 1:20 a.m. in the area of Dort and Reid in Grand Blanc Township and then moved east into the city of Grand Blanc.

The tornado then moved through the Indian Hill subdivision, the Commons, Kings Pointe subdivision, through Perry and Belsay roads and then into Atlas Township, according to police.

As of Wednesday morning, there were no injuries or deaths, according to police.

Officers reported they could see the tornado from their patrol cars, according to police.

Police said the tornado knocked down large trees, which damaged several homes in the Indian Hill and Kings Pointe subdivisions and ruptured numerous gas lines in the area.

Debris from damaged buildings was scattered and thrown all over the roadways, according to police.

Thousands of people were without power in the Grand Blanc area Wednesday morning, according to the Consumers Energy's outage map.

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in the area, but data on the storm won't be available until after crews investigate the damage.
