Troopers Save MI Man Trapped Under 700 Pounds Of Drywall: Police

Troopers said the man was working on a construction project alone and tried moving the large sheets of drywall when they fell on him.

SAULT STE MARIE, MI — Troopers rescued a northern Michigan man who was trapped under 700 pounds of drywall last Thursday, according to Michigan State Police.

The 43-year-old Levering man was working alone at the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie post, which is currently undergoing construction, according to police.

While working, the man tried to move large drywall sheets, but the stack of drywall sheets fell on top of him, trapping him underneath, according to police.

The man was able to call for help, and Michigan State Trooper Ferro, who was inside the post and faintly heard the man's cries for help and immediately rushed outside, according to police.

Ferraro lifted the heavy drywall sheets up high enough for the trapped man to get out, according to police.

The man only suffered minor injuries in the incident, according to police.

The man expressed sincere gratitude for Trooper Ferraro's efforts, according to police.

"This incident could have had a much more serious outcome," said Ferraro. "I’m just glad I was nearby to help."
