Whiteout Conditions Causes 50-Plus Vehicle Pileup On I-96
The collision happened Saturday afternoon on Interstate 96 near the Portland Road exit in Portland.

PORTLAND, MI — More than 50 cars were involved in collisions on Interstate 96 in Michigan Saturday afternoon.
Whiteout conditions led to the collisions, authorities said. The crash happened on Interstate 96 near the Portland Road exit, and eastbound and westbound lanes have been closed following the crash.
Injuries have been reported in the collision but the severity of those injuries are not currently known, WILZ News 10 is reporting. Authorities say between 50 to 100 vehicles were involved in the crash.

Harlan Medalen told WZZM 13 he was driving with his daughter, headed to Ionia, when the crash happened.
"Road conditions were actually really good at the start. The sun was shining. The roads were clear, traffic was moving full speed, and within a matter of moments, it just turned white," Medalen said.
