WMU Student Dies After Drunken Driver Hit Her Near Campus: Report
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said 21-year-old Kaylee Gansberg from Lisle, Illinois was hit around 2:30 a.m.
KALAMAZOO, MI — A Western Michigan student was killed Saturday morning after she was struck by a drunken driver near the campus of Western Michigan University, multiple reports said.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said 21-year-old Kaylee Gansberg from Lisle, Illinois was hit around 2:30 a.m. Saturday near West Michigan Avenue and Howard Street.
She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died later Saturday, reports said.

The driver took off after hitting the young woman, but was eventually tracked down by officers and identified as a 22-year-old Kalamazoo resident, reports said.
Officials determined the driver was drunk when he struck the young girl, reports said.

Officials did not release the driver's name, and it was unclear if the resident was a Western Michigan University student, reports said. The driver was taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail.
