Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. DTE to begin electrical work in Bad Axe starting April 2027 (ourmidland.com) — DTE Energy plans major electrical upgrades in Bad Axe starting April 2027, rebuilding about 1.5 miles of lines, poles, and transformers to cut outages and outage times significantly by 2029. Work will focus along North Van Dyke Road and Whiteham Street, with crews contacting nearby residents soon about stakes, property access, and what to expect during construction through November 2027.
2. Thumb Blessing Boxes bingo fundraiser hosted to sellout crowd (huroncountyview.com) — Bad Axe residents packed Knights by Cafe 53 for the 2nd Annual Designer Purse & Power Tool Bingo, filling the venue with more than 300 guests. The sold-out event raised significant funds for Thumb Blessing Boxes and the Huron County Suicide Prevention & Awareness Coalition, with over 100 donors and sponsors backing local assistance and mental health outreach across the Thumb.
3. Huron County Judge Gerald Prill to lead Michigan Judges Association (michigansthumb.com) — Huron County Circuit Court Judge Gerald Prill, a familiar voice at Bad Axe varsity football games, has been sworn in as president of the Michigan Judges Association for a one-year term starting Dec. 1, 2026. Local attorneys praise his community involvement, from Bad Axe Band Boosters to bringing the CASA program to Huron County, saying his new statewide role also reflects well on the region.
4. Judge Prill denies defense request for judge ruling in Bad Axe contractor fraud case (ourmidland.com) — A Huron County judge has refused a defense request to decide a fraud case himself, keeping charges against a Bad Axe contractor in the hands of a jury. Prosecutors allege the contractor took $25,000 for a remodeling job and largely failed to perform the work, while the judge ruled there is enough evidence for jurors to consider both larceny by conversion and contractor fraud.
5. Ubly finishes third at Akron-Fairgrove Jamboree (huroncountyview.com) — Bad Axe's girls golf team finished with a 257 at Akron-Fairgrove's first-ever jamboree at County Line Golf Course, led by Ellasyn Lang's 62. Millington won the event, while several Thumb-area schools, including Ubly and Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port, posted competitive scores and individual standouts in a strong early-fall showing.
