Battle Creek firefighters, aided by Bedford Township crews, confirmed the accidental blaze was quickly contained to machinery, but neighbors and workers may notice ongoing safety checks at the commercial site.
2. Weapon detection systems coming to Battle Creek elementary schools (woodtv.com) — Battle Creek Public Schools is rolling out walk-through weapon detection systems at several elementary school entrances after a gun accidentally discharged in a third grader's backpack at Ann J. Kellogg Elementary. Systems are already active at four schools, with the rest coming next week, and families are urged to plan extra time for morning drop-off as students adjust.
3. Children's Health & Wellness Fair is Oct. 10 in B.C. 4. Sabrina's Light assists dog fostering and placement through DEETS program (fox17online.com) — A Battle Creek–based dog rescue, Sabrina's Light, is seeking more local fosters while helping harder-to-place dogs gain confidence through its DEETS training program. The group will host a Halloween photo fundraiser at Pet Supplies Plus on Columbia Avenue October 24, giving residents a fun way to support rescue work and learn about fostering or volunteering opportunities.
