“It put us in a huge hole,” Berkley coach Jeff Fleming said. “For the most part we played a pretty discipline game on both sides, except for the end of the game there. You can’t do that in games like this.”

“We controlled most of it (the power play),” Fleming said. “We really threw the kitchen sink at them.”
Luc Hammerle and Curtis Carne both had point blank shots stopped by goaltender Anthony Benevenuti before Marysville was able to clear the puck. Before time expired, B.J. Kolcz raced down the ice and scored an empty net goal. It was Kolcz's third goal of the game.
It was the second time this season the Vikings edged out Berkley-Ferndale. Back on Jan. 7, Marysville beat Berkley 4-3 in the finals of the Berkley-Ferndale Invitational.
“Hats off to them,” Fleming said. “They really played well.”
Fleming thought his goalie Stephen Wroe did a nice job in net. He attributed two of the goals to defensive miscues.
Marysville's first goal came with only 3.0 seconds left in the first period. Drew Johnson scored (16:57) from Kolcz and Mitch Armbruster.
“You can’t give up goals in the last minute in any period,” Fleming said. “They always come back to haunt you.”
Berkley-Ferndale came back in the second period with a goal (3:08) from Zack Segall. Segall cleaned up a rebound off a missed shot from Zucker.
“That was a great goal,” Fleming said. “He stayed on it and followed the play up.”
Marysville wasted no time regaining its lead. After winning the ensuing faceoff, Johnson hit Kolcz and he scored with a quick shot (3:24).
“You gain some momentum in a game like this and all of sudden you give it away, every second counts in games against good teams,” Fleming said.
Before the end of the second, Joey Leider tied the game up with a goal (7:32) set up by Hammerle. Kolcz scored (3:34) the game-winner early in the third on Johnson’s second assist.
