Take a Peek at DIA Exhibit at Huntington Woods Library Event

A preview of the ongoing Detroit Institute of Arts' exhibit "Fakes, Forgeries and Mysteries" will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the . 

"Fakes, Forgeries and Mysteries" reveals an aspect of the museum's work that is rarely seen by the public: the research, science and technology that go into uncovering mistakes and making other discoveries about the DIA's collections. The exhibit features three main themes:

• Pieces whose originally identified origins – either artists or cultures – have been determined by research to be incorrect.
• Artworks that have been deemed forgeries, sometimes shown next to the real pieces for the sake of comparison.
• Pieces that remain a mystery: Are they authentic ... or aren't they?

During the preview event, Huntington Woods resident Jane Stewart, a docent for the museum, will share slides from the exhibit and offer tips on what to look for when you go.

"She's really good," library Director Anne Hage said. "She's a good speaker."
