Woods Gallery Features Work of Sherry Adams Foster

Foster, a Huntington Woods resident of 27 years, says she's inspired by images that evoke happiness.

An artist reception to celebrate the opening of the newest exhibit at will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

The public is welcome to the event, where guests will get a look at Sherry Adams Foster’s work in “Water Mixed with Wonder.” Her exhibit, currently on display, will run until May 17.

Foster grew up in Dearborn and has lived in Huntington Woods for nearly 30 years. She graduated from the University of Michigan and Wayne State University, though she has studied art mainly at Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center.

It was there she learned the skills and techniques that can be seen in her display at the gallery that’s housed on the lower level of the .

“Most pictures start when I see something that startles me into silence because of its beauty,” Foster says in her artist statement.

She said it’s a line of poetry by Mary Oliver that inspires her to create “an invitation to happiness” with her peices.

“Light, color, intricacies of shape and design invite us to remember that happiness is also part of this life,” she says. “We feel it whenever we remember.”

The Woods Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. The gallery will remain open until 8:30 p.m. at this week’s reception.
