4 New Retail Shops Open or Plan to Open in Downtown Birmingham

The Birmingham Shopping District, which boasts a 97 percent lease rate, promises announcement of national retailer in a few weeks.

BIRMINGHAM, MI – Are you in need of some retail therapy?

Downtown Birmingham has the prescription with a 97 percent lease rate, including several new stores that are open or plan to open this summer or fall.

“This is an exciting time in Downtown Birmingham,” Birmingham Shopping District Executive Director John Heiney said in a news release. “We’re attracting great new stores that are generating a lot of interest and attention.”

Dolce Moda is open at 323 East Maple Road. The store first opened in 2003 and is known for an extensive selection of fashion-forward merchandise for both men and women. Dolce Moda’s clothing and store has appeared in several movies shot in Detroit and also featured in local, national and international magazines.

Shoppers will find men’s clothing, footwear, accessories and jewelry, in addition to women’s jewelry and accessories.

Sara Campbell, a Boston-based fashion designer, will open a boutique in Birmingham this spring at 146 West Maple Road. The store will be the 17th nationwide and the first in Michigan. The company is known for its community philanthropy and will offer dresses, coats and accessories for women.

Sundance Shoes will open this summer at 239 South Old Woodward. Sundance Shoes, which also has a West Bloomfield Township location, is known as a fashion-forward women's shoe store, specializing in current fashion trends as well as comfort standbys. The store also offers handbags and accessory needs.

Gazelle Sports will open this fall at 99 West Maple Road. The Kalamazoo-based business was founded in 1985 and is known for a strong emphasis on creating friendly, positive relationships with their customers and the community. The store offers footwear and apparel for active and casual use, and will feature name brand products such as adidas, Dansko, New Balance, Nike and Lole.

Heiney said announcement of a national retailer coming to West Maple will be made within the next few weeks.
