1. Robert L. Ziegelman (downtownpublications.com) — Birmingham's longtime architect Robert L. Ziegelman reflects on decades of shaping the city's walkable, café-filled downtown and award-winning buildings, including 24 AIA-honored local projects. From his 555 Building office to outdoor dining innovations, he explains how design choices helped make Birmingham a comfortable, people-friendly place, even as he now turns toward retirement and writing.
2. High-end boutique in Birmingham robbed by burglars for the second time (fox2detroit.com) — A Pierce Street designer boutique in downtown Birmingham was cleaned out in a Sept. 17 burglary, the second time in two years thieves have hit the shop. Security video shows suspects grabbing high-end handbags, jackets, and sunglasses worth at least $100,000, even though the store sits across from the Birmingham Police Department.
3. Wendy Friedman (downtownpublications.com) — Birmingham resident Wendy Friedman has thrown herself into local life, serving on the Baldwin Public Library board while running a national college counseling practice from town. She also advocates on issues like AI governance and Rett Syndrome, balancing caregiving for her daughter with community work, political organizing, and a passion for making education and information more accessible.
