Why are you seeking elective office?
My family and I love the Baldwin Public Library and take advantage of all the wonderful programs offered. I wanted to run for library board to be more involved and give back to the community to ensure the library continues to be a beacon of information and a welcoming space now and in the future. I’m a mom of 2 young children, an employee of the Birmingham Family YMCA and I’ll be serving as Secretary for the Pembroke Elementary PTA this school year. I believe my organizational and communication skills as well as my connection to the library community will allow me to be a successful board member.
The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
An issue facing our library board is maintaining fiscal responsibility. I intend to work with fellow board members to pursue a strategic plan to ensure Baldwin Public Library remains relevant and maintains an appropriate budget for future use. Being financially responsible with the budget is incredibly important, as it relates to building remodeling, resource spending, and to ensure there are adequate funds for the future.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
There are three open spots for the board and there are three candidates running. Two candidates are incumbents and I am the new candidate. I hope to compliment the excellent team that is already serving and provide a fresh perspective to the board.
If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
If elected, I will strive to be the best board member by staying engaged with my fellow board members and library staff. I hope to continue to be an advocate for our community and present fresh perspectives from a variety of patrons.
