Detroit Country Day School presents spring dance showcase
Middle and Upper School students will perform the Appalachian Spring Suite on Friday, April 22.
Detroit Country Day School presents the first major dance concert featuring Middle and Upper School students to be held in the Seligman Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 22.
The concert features dance works by professional guest choreographers and concludes with a new dance work, choreographed by resident dance educator Alexis Collins using the ground-breaking Appalachian Spring Suite, which was composed by Aaron Copland as a commission for the Martha Graham Dance Company.
In this DCDS premiere, the collaborative efforts of the Upper School Repertory Dance Ensemble and Honors Symphonic Orchestra, along with scenic and lighting elements by resident faculty designer Jim Davis will bring new perspective to this American classic. The ballet tells the story of a newly engaged couple experiencing the joys of friendship and the excitement of building a home. Their dreams of a growing family are shattered by the reality of war. The couple must rely solely on the memory of what once was to carry them through.
