This Metro Detroit Restaurant Is Among Best Steakhouses In The Nation
The restaurant is housed inside a renovated former train station in Oakland County.
BIRMINGHAM, MI — A metro Detroit restaurant has been named one of the best steakhouses in the nation.
National food publication FSR Magazine placed Big Rock Italian Chophouse in its list of the top 50 Independent Restaurants of 2026.
The steakhouse opened in 2025 at 245 S. Eton east of Woodward in Birmingham, the former Grand Trunk Western Railroad Birmingham Depot.

"Big Rock distinguishes itself by combining historic preservation, upscale hospitality and culinary execution into a dining destination," FSR wrote. "The restaurant showcases a meticulous renovation that preserved original architectural details while introducing modern touches. At the center, a redesigned bar enhances the restaurant’s energy and sense of connection."
The menu features steaks, Italian-inspired fare, seafood, and wines, the group said. Guest can expect pasta dishes such as rigatoni Bolognese and Italian classics like chicken Parmesan and Chicken Saltimbocca.

The restaurant offers seating for roughly 360 guests, including 40 on an outdoor patio. There are also three private dining rooms for events.
The cigar club, located above the restaurant, offers VIP lockers that will give locker holders full access to The Rock Cigar Club and exclusive concierge services in addition to VIP events, offers and incentives.
