Police: Thieves Take Rolex Watches During Greenstone Jewelry Robbery

Three men sprayed the jewelry store employees with pepper spray, police say, while smashing a jewelry display case with a metal mallet.

Birmingham Police are currently searching for three men who allegedly took two Rolex watches during a robbery at Wednesday afternoon.

According Birmingham Police Cmdr. Terry Kiernan, three men — age 18 to 22 years old, witnesses say — broke into the jewelry store on North Old Woodward at approximately 12:40 p.m. with pepper spray and a metal mallet.

Immediately after breaking in, police say the three men used the mallet to break open a glass display case containing expensive watches. One of the men, police say, used pepper stray on two of the employees to distract them.

The store's security personnel attempted to intervene when the three men fled the store, police say.

According to Kiernan, the suspects fled the area in a four-door, dark blue or black SUV, possibly a GMC Yukon. They left the area by cutting through a subdivision, police say.

Kiernan said it appears the three men only managed to take two Rolex watches. There was a surveillance camera at the store, but the video has not yet been made available.
