Report: Stranger in Van Approached 10-Year-Old Girl After School

Birmingham police said Thursday they’re investigating a report that a man in a white utility van who reportedly approached a 10-year-old girl after she got off the school bus about 4:30 p.m. Monday in the vicinity of Manchester Road and St. Andrews Street.

The child’s mother told police she was running late and pulled up in time to see man driving the utility van alongside the girl as she walked to the spot where her mother normally picks her up, The Daily Tribune reports.

When the man asked the 10-year-old if she knew where she was going, she reportedly kept her head down as she walked and replied that her mother was picking her up. When her mother pulled up, the man in the van drove away.

The girl was not able to provide license plate information or a description of the man.
