Snowstorm Affects Birmingham School Schedule

All evening activities have been cancelled.

BIRMINGHAM, MI – Birmingham school officials said they would wait until Thursday morning to make a decision on whether to close school due to the weather.

All afternoon and evening activities were cancelled, according to the district’s website, which said:

The decision to close schools is made by the Superintendent upon the advice of the Manager of Operational Services and local law enforcement authorities. The Superintendent also utilizes information obtained during a phone call with a local meteorologist, other Oakland County superintendents and key District staff members prior to making the decision. The Superintendent considers the overall weather pattern, walking and driving conditions and whether our buses can safely pick up and transport students. Our buses travel through many neighborhoods with varying road conditions throughout our district, which spans north of Wattles to south of 13 Mile Road, and west of Middlebelt to the east side of the district at Coolidge.

Additionally, if schools are open, but individual parents/guardians have concerns about the safe passage of their children, parents/guardians can make a family decision to keep children home.
