Birmingham Fire Department Open House This Weekend

Safety demonstrations and learning to operate a fire hose are part of the annual event, but one big feature is still under wraps.

Birmingham firefighters will serve up firehouse chili and safety lessons t the annual open house from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Adams Fire Station, 572 South Adams.

Among the demonstrations include extinguishing fires with a portable fire extinguishers, operating a fire hose, and vehicle extrication simulations. HAZMAT apparatus and equipment will also be on display.

At 12:30 p.m., the owners of the Art and Frame Station will unveil artwork they created and donated to the Birmingham Fire Department. The piece has won awards and follows the theme of hometown heroes.

“We love seeing the community and teaching them life-saving fire safety tips,” Birmingham Fire Chief John Connaughton said in a news release. “We hope everyone will stop by and enjoy themselves.”
