Thanks to You Birmingham Patch Readers, I Found Her

Who is she?

Last week I wrote an article on Birmingham Patch, asking for people’s help.  I was trying to contact a singer who’d performed at the Birmingham Block Party.  I had taken her picture and wanted her to have it as a gift.

Several people wrote to me, including my sister in California who did the research online.  I had my answer within a few days!

Her name is Sami Mei Lofman.  She is a mega-talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist who is rapidly becoming well known in music circles.  Last August, she sang the national anthem at the Fox Theatre.  She also performed with Chad Smith, drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, at the Berman Center for Performing Arts.

And... she’s only 12 years old.

I interviewed Sami at the Axis Music Academy in Birmingham, where she works hard to develop her skills.  “I love writing and performing,“ Sami said, “and sharing the joy of music.  I’ve been singing since I was 8 years old.”  You can see some of her performances on YouTube:

I asked Sami why she dyed her hair purple.  She answered with a smile, “I just like it.  I’ve actually had my hair dyed several different colors.”

The Axis Music Foundation supports young local musicians, and this event will be a fundraiser for kids with special needs.  Don’t miss it!

Ryan Ghodotte, the school’s executive director, said this: “Sami Lofman is a perfect example of what can be accomplished with lots of hard work and dedication.  She is literally the poster child for Axis Music Academy.”  Looking at Sami with her picture, I would certainly agree.
