1 Killed, 1 Injured in Drive-By Shooting at Afternoon Soccer Game

The double shooting followed a fight, but the victims weren't involved in the original altercation, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said

PONTIAC, MI — An afternoon soccer game turned deadly in Pontiac Sunday when one man was killed and another was injured in a drive-by shooting, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The sheriff's office said multiple 911 calls came in around 4:30 p.m. from Aaron Perry Park, located on Edison near East Rundell, where hundreds of people had gathered to watch a league soccer match. The injured man was treated and released from an area hospital.

Two groups of males got into a fight before the fatal shooting, according to the release. Two men from one of the groups left the park first, then the second group left. The two men who first left returned in a dark-colored sedan and began firing in the area where the group they had been fighting with had last been seen, the sheriff's office said.

The two men who were shot were bystanders who hadn't been involved in the fight, according to the news release.

The man who was killed, Gilmar Carrillo, 42, of Pontiac, was sitting on the top row of the bleachers and was eating when he was shot. He fell from his seat on the fourth row and was found lying at the bottom of the bleachers on his back when deputies arrived.

The deputies administered CPR until the Waterford Regional Fire Department and STAR EMS paramedics arrived and transported Carrillo McLaren Hospital Oakland. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:05 p.m.

The second victim, a 49-year-old man, walked into the hospital with a graze wound to his back. He was treated and released.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the double shooting, the sheriff's office said. Tips can be made anonymously at 800-SPEAK-UP.

The sheriff's office has little to go on in the way of suspect description. A third person was driving the sedan, and authorities don't have a description of that individual or the make and model of the vehicle.
