METRO DETROIT, MI – You don’t have to lead a group of summer campers down a river in kayaks — though you could, according to a recent post on the Patch Jobs Board — to get a job that will get you out of the office and into the great outdoors.

A growing body of research about biophilia — humankind’s innate biological connection with nature — suggests you’ll be better for it.

For example, connecting with nature is essential not only to overall well-being, but productivity as well — a big reason tech giant Google uses biophilic design principles in its buildings

And an outdoor job will get you out of your chair. Sitting for extended periods during the day can contribute to a host of physical problems, from head to toe, according to medical experts.

The nonprofit American Youth Foundation is looking for an adventure trip leader for activities that include hiking, camping, canoeing, cycle touring and sea kayaking on trips that last from five to 28 days throughout the northeastern United States and Ontario, Canada.

A midsize Rochester Hills civil engineering company is looking for survey crew chiefs for projects that include standard construction layout, topographical, and boundary surveys for private and public clients including contractors, municipalities, airports and Michigan Department of Transportation.

If you’ve got an office gig and want a temporary part-time job that will get you outside, have you ever thought of horse sitting? A job in Holly involves feeding and watering four horses while their owner takes a few weekend camping excursions.

The Davey Tree Expert Company has immediate openings in its golf and grounds maintenance division for landscapers and landscape technicians. Duties include mowing, turf maintenance, planting and maintaining landscaping beds, and tree and shrubbery trimming.

Orkin and Rentokil are both looking for pest management technicians and other workers to help their customers eradicate rodent and insects. The jobs are physical, requiring both the ability to crawl into tight places and climb ladders.

Cities, counties and other local entities are still hiring seasonal summer staff.
