Bloomfield Hills Player Gets Ready for Spartans New Season
Bennie Fowler will be on the roster when Michigan State opens its 2012 season tonight against Boise State.

When the Spartan football team gathers on their sideline for the season-opening kickoff in tonight's game against Boise State, you'll want to look for a local gridiron hero. Whether you are in the stands or watching on TV, keep an eye out for #13. That's Bennie Fowler, the 6'-1" junior wide receiver from Bloomfield Hills. Fowler, the son of son of Bennie Fowler Jr. and Teresa Gueyser, is a fourth-year player from Detroit Country Day having red-shirted his freshman year. He has 16 career receptions for 195 yards (12.2 avg.) and one touchdown in 18 games and also has eight rushes for 68 yards (8.5 avg.) and another touchdown, according to the MSU media guide. During the 2011 season, Fowler recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown in the second quarter against Wisconsin, giving the Spartans a 23-14 lead and an eventual 37-31 victory over the fourth-ranked Badgers.
Michigan State is ranked 13th and Boise State 24th in the Associated Press' preseason poll. ESPN.com predicts tonight's game in East Lansing will be a slugfest. Catch the action at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
