Bloomfield Twp. Charges Filed in Huge Government Data Breach

Bloomfield Township woman received unsolicited credit cards after personal information stolen in U.S. government breach.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – A Detroit woman who allegedly stole a Bloomfield Township’s woman’s identity and opened a credit account in her name at a Toledo, OH, Home Depot store was arraigned Thursday in 48th District Court.

Dionne Latashu Wilson, 47, was arrested in December 2015 by an area police department after she allegedly opened a fraudulent account at a Menard’s store, Bloomfield Police Detective Sgt. James Gallagher said in a statement.

At that time, authorities found a Michigan identification card with Wilson’s photo, but the Bloomfield Township victim’s personal information, Gallagher said.

The victim had reported to police in early November that her personal information may have been compromised in a massive data breach at the U.S. Government’s Office of Personnel Management, Gallagher said.

Within a few weeks, the victim began receiving unsolicited credit cards in the mail and was contacted by Home Depot about a credit application for which she had not applied.

The personal data of more than 21.5 million people may have been stolen in the breach, according to media reports.

Wilson’s Bond was set at $10,000/10 percent during her arraignment.

Her next court appearance is 8:45 a.m on March 29.
