“DJ” — the man behind the friendly smile that greets Bloomfield Hills school students every morning — is the first person profiled in a new video series the school district is calling “The Heart of Bloomfield.”
Darrell Johnson has been driving for the school district for 16 years, during which he has developed strong connections with area families. His greeting sets the tone for students’ days as they get off the bus every morning, the school district said on its website.

The school district launched the video series to highlight behind-the-scenes unsung heroes who keep things running smoothly without a lot of fanfare.
“When we came up with the idea and asked the staff for nominations, the entire transportation recommended DJ,” Bloomfield Hills Schools Community Relations Director Shira Good told Hometownlife.com. “He’s just a phenomenal person.”
