Cranbrook Hosts Michigan's First 'Smart' Content Creation Seminar

Bloomfield Hills school is one of 25 around the country distinguished for using the interactive technology.

While the grand reopening of the Cranbrook Art Museum garners much of the attention at the Bloomfield Hills campus this weekend, leaders in education from around the state will arrive today for a different reason.

Cranbrook Schools hosts the first "Smart" Content Creation Seminar, where leaders in the use of SMART Board interactive whiteboards meet to discuss innovations, best practices and hands-on instruction. Participants were chosen through an application process, a Cranbrook news release stated. They will spend the day developing lesson plans and activities that maximize the technology with SMART Exemplary Educators from around the nation.

SMART developed the first interactive whiteboards, which allow teacers to implement dynamic lesson plans that combine the utility of the whiteboard with the powerful benefits of a computer. They introduced the technology in 1991 and it is fast becoming the standard for in-classroom technology.

The school began using the technology in 1998 and is one of just 25 institutions to with a SMART Elite Showcase School designation.
