Do You Want 'Tonight Show' Host Jimmy Fallon to Slow Jam Detroit?

Rochester Hills man launches #TonightShowDetroit effort to convince Jimmy Fallon and NBC to tape show in Detroit.

More than 20,000 people think Jimmy Fallon should bring his late-night talk show to Detroit.

That’s according to a Facebook page launched by a Greg Hummel of Rochester, who wants Fallon to tape a week’s worth of episodes of β€˜β€œThe Tonight Show’’ in Detroit.

β€œWe are a proud city with a rich cultural side that should be focused on with the national spotlight that a show like β€˜The Tonight Show’ could bring,” Hummel, 35, a longtime Fallon fan and a 2001 graduate of Oakland University, said in an email to The Oakland Press.

β€œDetroit is not often looked at positively on a national scale, and it should be,” he said.

The effort has gain some big names. Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, who tweeted his support, the Detroit Red Wings’ Darren McCarty posted a video on YouTube asking Fallon to visit, and others are tweeting using the #Tonightshowdetroit hashtag.


Fallon visited Detroit in late 2013 before replacing Jay Leno as β€œThe Tonight Show” host and shared an Instagram selfie at one of Detroit’s famed coney island restaurants.

β€œThere are so many great things in Detroit and the surrounding area,” he said. β€œThe Motown Museum and Detroit’s museums in general, The Heidelberg Project, Greektown, the (Detroit) Riverfront, Corktown, Tigers games in the summer, the list goes on and on.”

A spokesperson from β€œThe Tonight Show” didn’t return return an email from The Oakland Press seeking comment.

The show airs weeknights at 11:30 p.m. on WDIV-TV in Detroit.
