Drinking, Driving and Pokémon Go Don't Mix: Oakland County Sheriff

Deputies followed a trail of vehicle debris to the suspect's home in Walled Lake.

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, MI — Police have long warned, and rightfully so, that drinking and driving are a dangerous mix. With a popular smartphone game sweeping the nation, they're inclined to amend the warning: Drinking, driving and Pokémon Go don't mix.

A 28-year-old man who is accused in a hit-and-run collision in the 200 block of Meadows Circle about noon Thursday told admitted to police that he was searching for the digital creatures when he struck the vehicle, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Deputies followed a trail of vehicle debris to locate the suspect in his home in Walled Lake, then arrested him on suspicion of drunken driving. He sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Huron Valley Sinai Hospital treatment and a blood test before he was transferred to the Oakland County Jail, according to the report.

Authorities said they would release the suspect’s name following his arraignment on formal charges.
