Edward Gross and Mark A. Altman: The Complete, Uncensored, Unauthorized Oral History of Star Trek: The Fifty-Year Mission

An entire Book Fair evening devoted to “Star Trek”?

Highly logical.

The evening begins with a presentation – including film clips, mementos and rare photos – by Mark A. Altman, co-author of The Complete, Uncensored, Unauthorized Oral History of Star Trek: The Fifty-Year Mission, which Kirkus Reviews called “an absolute must for any Star Trek fan.” His presentation will focus on the cultural impact of the show and its Jewish influences, and he will reveal stories from the behind-the-scenes making of every incarnation of the franchise.

Then at 9 p.m. Showing of the film “For the Love of Spock,”

Live long and prosper as you see the film “For the Love of Spock,” a tribute to Leonard Nimoy. The documentary, made by Leonard’s son Adam, is narrated by Zachary Quinto and includes interviews with William Shatner, George Takei, Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols, Chris Pine and many more.

Speakers and events are open to the public and many are free; all programs will be held at the Jewish Community Center or The Berman Center for the Performing Arts, both located at 6600 W. Maple Road in West Bloomfield. Contact the box office at 248-661-1900 and for a complete list of Book Fair events and times, please visit jccdet.org/bookfair. The cost for Saturday, November 12th is $12 Book Talk or Movie and Book Talk $19.
