UPDATED: Lahser High School, Way Elementary Close Early Due to Power Outage

Classes dismissed at 10 a.m. Monday after power goes out for nearly 400 customers.

 

2:45 p.m.: Power appears to be restored to the area, according to the DTE Outage Map. The lights at Telegraph and Long Lake began functioning normally several hours ago, according to the Bloomfield Township Police Facebook Page.

Lahser High School will be open as scheduled for classes Tuesday.

Officials with the Bloomfield Hills Schools cancelled classes this morning at Lahser High School and Way Elementary School due to a power outage.

Students were dismissed from Lahser at 10 a.m. and Way students will be transported home beginning at 10:15 a.m., according to an e-mail alert from District Spokeswoman Shira Good.

If no one is home to receive the Way student, they will be sent back to the building and supervised until someone is available to pick them up. All after school, evening, and athletic events are canceled for Lahser and Way today.

Roughly 400 customers in Bloomfield lost power shortly after 8 a.m. today, and the estimated restoration time is between 11 a.m.-1 p.m., according to the DTE Outage Map. Most of the affected customers are in the area east of Telegraph Road on both sides of Long Lake Road.

No cause for the outage is stated on the DTE website.

Lahser closed for two days at the end of October due to power outages associated with high winds from Superstorm Sandy.
