The school’s sprawling 319-acre campus is considered a masterpiece of American architecture. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989, an honor that has been given to only two other independent schools in the United States, according to the Cranbrook website.

Also on the Cranbrook grounds are the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Museum, built in 1932, and the Cranbrook Institute of Science, built in 1930, both considered preeminent in their fields. Cranbrook House, the home of the school’s founders George and Ellen Booth, is surrounded by 40 acres of gardens, lawns, and woodlands.
