Make a Difference at the Kirk in the Hills 5K Run/Walk

Music can make a difference and Accent Pontiac is trying to impact social change through the art of music. Accent Pontiac uses music education to empower children in Walt Whitman Elementary School and Alcott Elementary School, as well in the Kirk in the Hills Junior Choir. The Accent Pontiac program encompasses traditional woodwind, brass, as well as bucket band instruction.

The Kirk in the Hills has teamed up with four other churches: Northbrook Presbyterian Church, Orchard Lake Community Church, First Presbyterian Church Pontiac, and First Presbyterian Church of Troy to challenge their members to perform 5,000 hours of community service in the month of November. Volunteer events range from Gleaners Food Pantry to literacy tutoring in Pontiac schools to helping homeless children with the Covenant House. November’s 5K Service Challenge’s community volunteer efforts will culminate in the Kirk in the Hills 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, November 24th.

Along with the religious communities listed above, local businesses like Lau & Lau and Genisys Credit Union are happy to sponsor the 5K Run/Walk event. Open to all, this event’s proceeds will go to Accent Pontiac, a music program that promotes social change. The race starts at 9 a.m. and will begin at the Kirk in the Hills and roll through the picturesque hills and lakes in Bloomfield Hills. This family-friendly event will offer a great time for all and a chance to team up with the community and help children in Pontiac.
