Marian Clinches District Title Over West Bloomfield
The Mustangs defend their home court and add another title to an already-impressive season. The regional round starts Tuesday.
The Marian High School Mustangs can add a district crown to their accomplishments for the 2012-13 season.
Marian advanced to the next round by beating West Bloomfield 59-39 on their home court Friday night in the MHSAA district playoff finals. The Mustangs jumped out to 18-9 lead after the first quarter, and were up 40-16 at halftime. The Lakers outscored Marian 23-19 in the second stanza, but never threatened to end the Mustangs' season.

Kara Holinski scored 14 points, followed by Kilyn Bulluck (13) and Bailey Thomas (12) for Marian, now 21-3, according to Mlive.com. The Catholic High School League champions advanced to regional round and play Avondale at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Waterford Kettering High School.
“We can have poor offensive nights, but if we play hard defensively we can win any game,” Holinski told Miprepzone.com. “We’re working really hard to play team ball, which we think is the best way to go far in the tournament.”

West Bloomfield, which beat Seaholm 58-35 Wednesday, fell to 10-12. Senior Ashley Zeigler sank four three-pointers and led all scorers with 18 points, Miprepzone.com reported. Fellow senior Kheri Motley scored nine.
“We had a little bit of a mental letdown, and that’s tribute to them (Marian). That’s what they do, they wear on you and they’re physical. They’re just a tough team,” West Bloomfield Head Coach Zach Hilbers told Miprepzone.com.
