Marian Volleyball Looks to Continue Winning Ways

The Mustangs plan to build on consecutive state championships this year.

The Mustangs volleyball program is the cream of the crop in Metro Detroit. Marian has claimed back-to-back state championships and has appeared in the past four Class A state finals.

“The standard has been set with this team the last few years and we intend on keeping it in tact,” said Irick Gardner of his current squad’s intentions entering the coming campaign. “We’ve been going hard since the start of the offseason and if we come up short in going after a third state title this season, it won’t be because we didn’t give it everything we humanly could to the effort.”

All-state setter Mary Henry will be the team’s on-court leader. Fellow seniors Kari Fidelholtz and Kaleigh Pohlman will prove imposing for opposing teams at the net and sophomore Jesse Kopmeyer is one the best players in the Class of 2014.
