Mayor Proclaims 'Giving Tuesday' in Bloomfield Hills
The city is joining hands with the Oakland Mediation Center to increase giving and philanthropy in the community.

Bloomfield Hills Mayor Michael Dul has proclaimed Tuesday, Dec. 2, as Giving Tuesday, a date observed since 2012 to raise money and awareness for important causes around the world.
Dul says Giving Tuesday harnesses the collective power of charities, families and businesses to “inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities; give back in better, smarter ways to charities and causes they support; and help create a better world,” according to a news release.
The proclamation came at the request of the Oakland Mediation Center, hich was looking at ways to promote and celebrate America’s great tradition of philanthropy.

“This national movement provides a framework and ideas for people to choose their own way to contribute to their communities and will provide the citizens of Bloomfield Hills with an opportunity to make a difference,” said Oakland Mediation Center Executive Director, Bonnie Hanes.
“It’s an honor to have the City of Bloomfield Hills formally proclaim Giving Tuesday as a day of giving,” she said.

Oakland Mediation Center is a non-profit organization committed to the peaceful resolution of conflict through community mediation and education. Like many other non-profit organizations, Oakland Mediation Center is invested in its community and understands the importance of community support.
OMC will be celebrating Giving Tuesday at its Bloomfield Hills office by hosting Community Hero Day on Tuesday From noon until 1 p.m. individuals will be treated to lunch, and have a chance to share how they support OMC and promote the group’s missions on social media
“Giving Tuesday is counter narrative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday because it reminds us that the spirit of the holiday giving season should be about community and not just consumerism,” said Kathy Calvin, CEO of the UN Foundation. “The most meaningful gift we can give our children, loved ones, friends and neighbors is the commitment to work together to help build a better world.”
