No Canada! London's 2012 XXX Summer Olympics Not on CBC

Olympic viewers who have tuned to CBC in the past to watch live event coverage will be out of luck this year.

Impressed with NBC's coverage last night? Olympic viewers who have watched CBC-TV to watch live coverage of track and field, swimming and other events in the past will be left to watch regular Canadian programming during the Summer Games in London.

The Canadian network, which is available on many local cable systems in southeastern Michigan, including and , does not have the rights to the XXX Olympiad in London. Canada's Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium, which includes CTV, RDS, TSN, Sportsnet, RDS Info Sports, OMNI and OLN, will show the games.

While many viewers will not have the option to watch the Canadian feed, NBC and Comcast will provide 5,525 hours of programming on NBC, NBC Sports Network, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo and Telemundo, two HD specialty channels for soccer and basketball and a 3D channel, according to a release from Comcast.

Events will also be streamed online at NBCOlympics.com, and the NBC Olympics and NBC Olympics Live Extra apps for mobile and tablet users. 

“We are excited to bring our Xfinity TV customers NBCUniversal’s coverage of every minute of every medal on every screen of the 2012 London Olympics,” said Matt Strauss, Senior Vice President, Digital and Emerging Platforms, Comcast Cable, in a release. “Through multi-platform Olympic-themed search, tools and personalized features created to help our customers view and experience the events, we are providing a virtual passport to NBCUniversal’s comprehensive 2012 London Games programming.”
